Building our City Now and into the Future

As a proud resident of Vaughan, I am thrilled to share the latest developments in our city that enhance the quality of life and support our vibrant community.

To ensure the well-being of the community, the City of Vaughan is undertaking initiatives to help ease the flow of people and goods, deliver parks and leisure spaces, uphold water and wastewater systems, preserve the environment, promote accessibility … and so much more.

In 2023, some of these important city-building initiatives included progress on the Kirby Road Extension and Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge, which will improve the flow of traffic throughout Vaughan. In addition, the City’s award-winning active transportation infrastructure continues to advance, and planning is underway for future parks, facilities, roads, bridges and the things we cannot see but are vital, such as underground pipes.

The 2023 Infrastructure Development Delivery Report (PDF), which was approved today by Vaughan Council, highlights how these projects are coming to life:

  • The City invested $102.48 million in state of good repair projects and $92.39 million in growth-related projects, for a total of $194.87 million in expenditures. The State of Good Repair Program reviews the condition of the City’s current infrastructure assets, whereas the Growth-Related Program delivers new infrastructure to support growth, including community centres and roads.
  • An investment of $55.1 million was made to 125 road and bridge projects. These include the Bass Pro Mills Drive Extension Environmental Assessment, the Canada Drive-America Avenue Bridge, the Kirby Road Extension, the Woodbridge Avenue Improvements and Streetscape Project, and more.
  • An investment of $34.54 million was made to 58 water, wastewater and stormwater projects. These include the Black Creek Renewal Environmental Assessment, the Keele Street Watermain Replacement, Old Maple Area Infrastructure Improvements, the Gallanough Park Stormwater Management Facility and more.
  • An investment of $71.73 million was made to 118 facility projects. These include the new Carrville Community Centre, Library and District Park, the renovated Garnet A. Williams Community Centre, the new Fire Station 7-12, the new Service Vaughan counter at City Hall, and parking lot improvements at Bathurst Clark Resource Library, Al Palladini Community Centre and Maple Community Centre, and more.
  • An investment of $20.50 million was made to 103 parks and open spaces projects. These include the Bartley Smith Greenway Trail Feasibility Study, North Maple Regional Park, establishing pickleball courts and off-leash dog areas, building the new Alouette Common Park, Martin Tavares Park and Peter Cipriano Park, and more.
  • An investment of $12.94 million was made to 31 active transportation projects. These include the Jane Street Uptown Link, the Vaughan Super Trail, the Keele Street Multi-Use Pathway, the New Westminster Drive Road Rehabilitation and Improvements, cycle tracks on Martin Grove Road, Weston Road, and more.

In total, $195 million in infrastructure projects was completed in 2023.

And more is coming in 2024! The Infrastructure Development portfolio continues to develop long-range infrastructure planning studies to support future growth. Projects include the Teston Road Environmental Assessment, the Vaughan Transportation Plan, the Urban Water Plan, the Yonge North Subway Extension, widening Highway 7, the Yonge-Steeles Corridor Secondary Plan and more.
