We’ve got a name: the sandwich generation. We still have our children living with us and we are trying to manage our parent’s affairs at the same time. Words like DOWNSIZING, RETIREMENT, ASSISTED LIVING have weaved their way into our vocabulary.
Leaving the family home or the neighbourhood is a transition that carries a lot of emotion and can cause stress. It’s not an easy conversation to have with your parents, but it’s important that they understand it’s far better for them to make the choice to move rather than be forced to move by circumstance.
As a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging® (CPCA), I have learned how to approach the topic with compassion and patience. I walked through this experience with my own parents and can guide you and your parents as an advocate. I’ll ensure everyone knows the choices that are available and make the next move easy and stress-free by helping to coordinate stagers, movers, and any other professionals necessary. Paying attention to your parents’ unique needs is paramount to ensuring this is a happy transition for everyone.
