Some sales stay with you — and this was one of them.
My client Gayle, 89 years young, decided it was time to begin a new chapter in a beautiful retirement residence close to her community. She’s independent, sharp, and full of life — but she was ready for the comfort of being surrounded by others and leaving behind the challenges of maintaining a home, especially through the winters.
On the night we listed her home, as I was heading out the door, Gayle asked me a simple question:
“How often do homes sell to the first buyer that comes through?”
It’s not something I hear often, but this time it felt like foreshadowing. Gayle’s home had a warmth and welcome that you could feel the moment you stepped in.
Sure enough, the very first buyers through the door — a young couple purchasing their very first home — fell in love with it. Gayle happened to meet them during the showing, and she quietly told me afterward that she hoped they’d be the ones. She felt they’d truly enjoy and care for her home.
And she was right. They are now the proud new owners. This was more than just a sale. It was a “meant-to-be” moment. Gayle will be settled into her new residence this fall, with new friends, support, and no more worries about the long winter ahead. I’m so excited for her new beginning — she’s a real trooper, and I feel very lucky to have walked alongside her in this transition.
