Crowd Pleasing Oven Fried Chicken

Stop your kids’ back to school blues with this crowd pleaser. Pro-tip: make enough oven fried chicken for seconds (and thirds)!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of flour (the half a cup goes a long way!)
  • 1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Chicken pieces. I usually get:
    – 6 thighs skin on
    – 8 wings
    – 6 drumsticks skin on

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together flour,1tsp of salt, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and dry mustard.
  3. Rinse chicken under water; pat dry and season with salt. One piece at a time, coat chicken in flour mixture. Place on foil-lined, rimmed baking sheet – this makes the clean-up easy!
  4. Bake in a 400-degree oven for about 50-55 minutes. Every oven is different, but these pieces of chicken don’t take that long to cook.
  5. The recipe calls for basting the chicken with the pan drippings, but I don’t. I put this in the oven, set my timer, and get my salad and veggies ready.
  6. I would let the chicken rest for a bit; about 5 to 10 minutes. There will be a lot of oil on the foil sheet, but don’t worry about it. The chicken won’t taste oily at all.

I’d love to hear how this meal turned out from whoever wants to try it. Please go out and buy the dry mustard. Keep it in your pantry. This oven fried chicken recipe will be a family favourite!
