Have You Heard? The New Vaughan 33-Acre Development Proposal Includes Private School & Huge Sports Complex!

Back in 1999, the City of Vaughan made an agreement to have a Sports Village Complex developed on 33 acres at Rutherford Road/Melville Avenue. This plan includes the private Berkeley Academy School for 750 kids, 4 NHL-sized ice surfaces, a 30,000-square-foot Outdoor Sports Park (with basketball courts, a climbing tower, baseball diamonds, volleyball courts and more), a full-sized restaurant with banquet facilities, a full-service retail sports store, and more.

To my knowledge, many Vaughan residents still aren’t aware of this proposal. Even though I’ve lived in this neighborhood since July 1998, the first time I even heard about this proposal was in October 2018!

You can read all about the expansion proposals at SportsVillage.ca, and even take a tour of a mockup of the entire property in this video:

If you have any thoughts, concerns, or questions, you have a chance to share your opinion at the next Vaughan City Council meeting.

There is a meeting about the development being held on Feb. 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Vaughan City Hall.

I’d also love to hear what you think about the development!
