The promise of a long, hot summer is unfolding before us and, if you ask me, it’s time to shop! I put away my winter boots and most of my sweaters, and suddenly my closet was looking a little bare! I decided there was no better time than the present to take a trip to my favourite boutique, DBoutique (1-10048 Keele St., Vaughan), to pick up a spring treat, or two.

The owner of DBoutique is Diana, and she’s the previous owner of Diana’s on Major Mackenzie. Her style is eclectic, original and perfect for me, because I like to be stylish and dressed like no one else in the room.

I met up with Diana to ask her a few questions about DBoutique, and her tips on how to dress for spring.

When did you open DBoutique?
I opened in December, 2010. After closing Diana’s, I spent 5 years working for name-brand retailers but quickly learned that I wanted to express my own sense of style in a boutique, and guarantee a high quality of clothing for my customers.

What inspires your clothing-buying decisions?
I keep my eyes on the runway, so I’m always on-trend. That said, I’m committed to providing fashions to my entire clientelle, regardless of age. I have communion dresses, evening wear, formal dresses, and career-appropriate clothing. Most importantly, I make sure that my clients can be fashionable without breaking the bank.

What is your favourite style for spring?
I love that it’s trendy to incorporate a bright pop of colour into your outfit. If you’re wearing denim and a light spring jacket, incorporating a fuchsia sweater, or a bright melon scarf, will brighten your face and make you stand out in a crowd.

What are spring’s staple pieces?
The cuts are very feminine, we’re seeing a return to a 1950’s silhouette, a la Audrey Hepburn. There is a focus on detail, like a ruffled hemline or a feminine applique. It’s in to be a woman! Wearing a swingy skirt with a pretty espadrille is a fun way to welcome the summer months.

How can a wardrobe get updated for spring, without spending much money?
Adding a large cocktail ring to your hand, or a bright accent piece, like a belt or scarf, is an affordable way to modernize your outfit without purchasing the basics.

Visit DBoutique for a refreshing take on fashion, right here in Vaughan’s own backyard!
